Our journey to installing a Dolby Atmos Mixing Studio at Starsound Studios was a truly collaborative one. Haverstick Designs led the acoustical design, and a significant contributor was Paul Capuano from Dolby. His expertise was instrumental in providing the final room tuning for our certification. Dolby Atmos, a format of speakers surrounding the listener, has been a staple in the film industry for years. However, it's yet to become a standard in the audio industry. The format is identified by numbers such as 7.1, with the first number representing the speakers around the listener and the second indicating a subwoofer.

The Dolby Atmos numbering system is unique and significant. For instance, Starsound Studios has a 9.1.4 Dolby Atmos system. The '9' signifies the number of speakers around the listening position, the '1' represents the subwoofer, and the '4' indicates the presence of height speakers. These height speakers, a unique feature of the Dolby Atmos system, play a crucial role in adding a vertical dimension to the sound and enhancing the overall audio experience, making it a system worth exploring in depth.
